A former deputy fire chief in the southwestern Idaho city of Nampa has ended his federal lawsuit against the city after reaching a settlement.
The Idaho Press-Tribune newspaper reports former Nampa Deputy Fire Chief Doug Strosnider and the city reached a $750,000 settlement. In exchange, Strosnider agreed to dismiss the wrongful termination lawsuit he brought against the city after he was fired from the job in 2014.
In the federal lawsuit, Strosnider contended he was fired because he expressed safety concerns about two local apartment buildings, and he also raised concerns about possible discrimination against people with disabilities at one of the apartments.
In the settlement agreement, Nampa officials denied any liability or wrongdoing.
City spokeswoman Vickie Holbrook said the Idaho Counties Risk Management Program led the settlement to limit the costs and distraction associated with lengthy litigation.
