BOISE, ID – The four major Republican presidential candidates will be on the ballot at Idaho’s first GOP caucus. Mitt Romney, Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum. But who will win? Republican PartyExecutive Director Jonathan Parker thinks Idaho’s 32 delegates are up for grabs.
Jonathan Parker “It’s gonna come down to which candidate is organizing and mobilizing their supporters and getting them to the polls. You know caucus’s traditionally have a lower turnout than a primary election and definitely lower than a general election, so you’re talking about a smaller sample of the population so those people who are actually effective at getting their supporters to the polls, I believe is who’s eventually going to be successful.”
Boise State University Political Science Professor Gary Moncrief takes a look at how the results might break down in different parts of the state.
Gary Moncrief “I think Romney will do very well in the East, you know, part of that is, it’s religious based. Paul will do very well in Northern Idaho which seems to be where the real strength of the Tea Party is. And they’ll fight it out in the Southwest part of the state, Canyon County – Ada County area, will be, I think, where the real competition is between the two.”
