Anyone with an idea about bike lanes in downtown Boise is invited to voice their opinion at City Hall at 5:00 p.m. The Ada County Highway District (ACHD) will host an open house Wednesday in Boise to go over four options for expanded bike lanes in the city’s downtown. Ada County Commissioner Paul Woods says the goal is to get as many people as possible to attend.
Woods was electedto the highway district in 2015, after the city and the commission openly fought over a short-lived bike lane project the year before. He says now things are different.
“We want to be responsive to the cities in Ada County," says Woods, "and so this is going to be informative for both the City of Boise and for the highway district to see how the community wants to proceed with bike lanes.”
Two of the four options on the table would remove driving lanes on parts of Main and Idaho Streets and create physical buffers between cyclists and drivers. Each option would take away some on street-parking. Woods says balancing the needs of businesses, drivers, pedestrians and cyclists can be difficult. But he says it’s worth the time and effort to find the best solution.
