The Idaho senate has a new member. Governor Butch Otter has appointed an eastern Idaho man to fill a vacancy left by the former majority leader.
Tuesday, Otter announced that Tony Potts of Idaho Falls will fill former longtime Senator Bart Davis’s old seat. The governor’s office says Potts has been involved in GOP politics in Bonneville County, as well as with the Boy Scouts. Potts attended Brigham Young University and works as a property manager and salesman.
The Bonneville County Central GOP Committee selected three nominees for the Governor to choose from, but Potts was not their first pick. Mark Fuller – who is the current chairman of the county committee – along with State Representative Bryan Zollinger were also considered for the seat.
Davis served in the Idaho Legislature for 10 terms, during eight of which he was the Republican Majority Leader of the Senate. President Trump nominated him to serve at the U.S. Attorney for Idaho in June, and he was confirmed by the Senate in September.
