Idaho’s lieutenant governor, Brad Little, made a pitch to the state’s powerful Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee. Rather than make any serious request for himself, he pushed for funds to go toward a proposal floated by the governor.
Little, who’s also a Republican gubernatorial candidate, didn’t ask the powerful JFAC committee to give his office much money. With just himself, an assistant and a chief of staff, Little’s only line item request was $2,300 to upgrade the phone system.
With the balance of his time before the committee, the Spokesman Review reports Little championed funding a new Office of Information Technology. Creating the department and a position that would be a statewide cybersecurity chief are requests in Governor Butch Otter’s budget.
Little was the chair of a task force looking into cyber threats that eventually recommended the creation of the new digital information office.
Members of the committee thanked Little for his leadership and passion on the subject of cybersecurity.
