Democrats And Republicans Work Together In The Idaho Legislature

Idaho Press-Tribune via Idaho State Police via AP

As state lawmakers sift through the nearly 400 bills introduced this session, two of them have been moving quickly, but quietly, through the chambers.

One of them deals with who pays for the medical forensic exam that gathers the evidence in sexual assault cases. The other has to do with when, and what, assets law enforcement can seize, like cash or cars -- even if no one has committed a crime.

Boise State Political Science Professor Gary Moncrief tells Samantha Wright these bills are a good example of Republicans and Democrats working together.

Gary and Samantha have a podcast called “Legislative Breakdown.” We pick apart the Idaho Legislature each week to find out how it affects YOU -- and this week we take a very deep dive into tax cuts. Find “Legislative Breakdown” every Friday in iTunes, in the NPR One app and here.

Correction: In the audio portion of the story, the words "collection of" is left out before the term "rape kit." To clarify - the bill in question would affect who pays for the medical forensic exam that collects the evidence that goes into the rape kit, not the processing of the rape kit itself.
