Republican state Sen. Marv Hagedorn started his public service in the Navy. Now, he’ll help others who have served in the military in his new role as administrator of the Idaho Division of Veterans Services. The Meridian lawmaker will start his new job at the end of July.
Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter announced Hagedorn’s appointment in a press release Tuesday. Hagedorn was first elected to the House in 2007 and then was elected to the Senate where he held office for almost six years. He’s currently vice chair of the Senate State Affairs committee. He also recently lost his bid for Lieutenant Governor in the Republican primary.
As administrator, he’ll work with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on issues impacting Idahoans, advocating on their behalf when it comes to benefits. The Division of Veterans Services runs veteran homes in Boise, Pocatello and Lewiston – along with the State Veterans Cemetery. Hagedorn’s two grown children are both in the Navy.
