Idaho’s senior senator is pushing back against Democrats who tried to delay a hearing on President Trump’s nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Protesters repeatedly interrupted the first day of Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing. Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee also asked for more time to read through tens of thousands of documents related to his time in the George W. Bush White House that were released just a few hours before the hearing.
They say President Trump should also drop his claim of executive privilege in preventing the release of more than 100,000 additional documents.
“Their motives are clear: Use any means available to attempt to delay the confirmation process of a well-qualified jurist fit for the job indefinitely,” says Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho).
Crapo calls Kavanaugh a “judge’s judge” who will interpret the law as it’s written.
Republicans overruled the request for more time from Democrats. Hearings will continue Wednesday with questions from committee members.
