Idaho’s junior senator will seek a third term in Congress.
Jim Risch has held elected office in Idaho for nearly 50 years. He first served as Ada County Prosecutor when he was 27 years old, eventually moving to the Idaho Senate and the lieutenant governor’s office.
Risch later became governor for a few months in 2006 and eventually won his first U.S. Senate race two years later.
He currently chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
In a statement, Risch says he’s running to stand up for conservative solutions and fight against socialist agendas in Congress.
Lowering taxes, boosting small business growth and shrinking government will be some of his priorities.
Progressive Democrat Nancy Harris has already announced her campaign to challenge Risch next year. Harris founded and ran the Caldwell home furnishings company Wooded River until 2004.
