So far, Boise State has sold just over 22,000 tickets for Saturday's Mountain West Championship football game with Fresno State. That’s about 14,000 short of a sellout.
Max Corbett works in the university's sports information office. He says that’s fewer ticket sales than he’d like. But Corbett says it’s the first time the school has hosted a championship game with just one week’s notice.
“It is short notice and people have plans,” Corbett points out. “This is the holiday season, they’ve got parties. I know myself people who aren’t going to make it; they’re having their holiday party this Saturday. This is a little different, short notice in trying to turn around that quick.”
Corbett says he’s hopeful more people will turn up at the last minute and help fill up the stadium. “I’ve been to stadiums all over the country and when our stadium is full, and our fans, as they always are, are into it, it makes a big difference for us, so we’re really hoping they’re going to have a nice crowd because that crowd can make a difference at times.”
Corbett says low ticket prices and some possible good weather may help draw more fans to the game, which starts at 8 p.m. Saturday night.
