Bogus Basin Ski Resort Plans Limited Opening Friday

Bogus Basin will open Friday despite anemic snow accumulation on the mountain north of Boise.

The ski resort plans to open limited terrain to skiers and snowboarders. Bogus reports 13 inches of snow at its base.

"We’re ready and very excited to welcome the community up the mountain to have fun enjoying early-season skiing and boarding,” says Bogus General Manager Alan Moore.

Bogus has discounted Alpine and Nordic tickets. The resort will open Deer Point, Showcase, Coach, the Easy Rider magic carpet and a small terrain park in Stewart's Bowl. And limited trails will be open from the Nordic Center.

Moore says the decision to open a few runs was made Wednesday. "We spent some time this morning, looking at conditions on the mountain and determined that there really was enough good skiing that if we didn't open it would be a bit of a shame."

The resort is subject to mother nature's whims when it comes to opening its ski hills. Depending on the year, Bogus has opened as early as November and as late as January. Last year, the resort opened on Dec. 8 and had more than 243,000 visitors through the season.
