The National Parks Service (NPS) is offering free admission to all parks, preserves, monuments and historical sites through April 24. The annual week of freebies has added meaning this spring: the NPS is celebrating its centennial in 2016.
Most of the Idaho sites on the list are normally free (thoughCity of Rocks has a camping fee). But Craters of the Moon will waive its $10 per car admission, and Yellowstone National Park visitors won't have to pay the normal $30 admission -- although be sure to check this map of opened roads before you make plans for a spring visit.
(Technically, only one percent of Idaho is "in" the park. Wyoming contains 96 percent of Yellowstone.)
A couple years ago a reddit user created a map that shows the closest national park by region that could help you get inspired. NPS has launched their own "Find Your Park" program to promote the centennial.
But not everything is celebratory during the service's milestone year; here's an NPR story about alack of diversity in the parks and how increasing attendance could be hurting beloved American destinations.
