The men's and women's pro races are the most high-profile – and high-speed – events at Saturday's Twilight Criterium. Racers from around the country will speed through downtown, rounding turns over and over. Crashes do happen at these races, where one wrong move by a cyclist can cause mayhem on the course.
But besides the twilight races, there’s a new event this year. The paracycle race goes from 6:00-6:30 p.m., and according to the Idaho Statesman will include a top competitive hand cyclist from Boise. There’s also a kid's race that will be led by Idaho Olympic medalist Kristin Armstrong. Armstrong is headed to the Olympics for the fourth time next month.
Parts of Jefferson and Bannock streets will be closed until midnight for the Criterium. The new route begins and ends at the state Capitol.
