The new movie Argo is a drama about the CIA’s role in getting six Americans out of Iran in the months following the hostile takeover of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979. Ben Affleck directed the movie. He also plays Tony Mendez, the CIA operative who thinks up the plan to get the Americans out.
One of the people Mendez helped was Post Falls, Idaho native Lee Schatz (pronounced "shots"). He was a 31-year-old University of Idaho graduate working in Iran for the Foreign Agricultural Service. Schatz now works for the government in Washington, D.C. He says the day the embassy fell, everything started out normally.
