U.S. Census Bureau data analyzed by Reuters show which American counties have the largest share of same-sex households. Based on the 2010 Census, north Idaho's Benewah County has more same-sex households per 1,000 residents than any other Idaho county.
Benewah's 2010 population was 9,285. According to the 2014 Census estimate, total population has actually declined since then by 241 people.
Using Census data, Reuters finds 5.6 out of every 1,000 U.S. household is same sex. In Benewah County, that average is 11.04 per 1,000 households.
The Benewah County Clerk's office says they haven't given out any same-sex marriage licenses since gay marriage became legal here in Oct. 2014.
Gem, Blaine and Ada counties each have more than 5 same-sex households per 1,000 people.
Reuters reports more than 70 percent of Americans now live in states that allow gay marriage.
