The original version of this story ran on March 15, 2017:
The Sun Valley Film Festival launches its sixth season Wednesday night with the world premiere of "Blood Road," the story of world-class extreme athlete Rebecca Rusch and her bicycling journey across the Ho Chi Minh Trail, where her father was shot down and killed 45 years ago this month at the height of the Vietnam War.
Rusch talked with KBSX's George Prentice about her feelings prior to the film's launch and her decision behind taking this journey in the first place.
"I'm opening my soul up to the world," Rusch says. "And to be able to show it in my hometown, in Idaho, it's really special for me because it's the perfect way to kick off this journey that's still going on in the place I call home, almost exactly 45 years to the day my dad was shot down."
The world premiere of "Blood Road" is Wednesday, March 15 at 6 p.m. The encore showing will take place Saturday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. at Community School theatre. Get tickets here.
