This week, the City of Boise opens up the James Castle House to the public after three years of work on the property.
The house was home to Castle for more than half his life and where he created hundreds of works of art. The self-taught artist’s work has been shown across the country and around the world.
City officials turned the home into part exhibition space and part historical artifact. Samantha Wright took a tour and spoke with Byron Folwell, the project architect, Rachel Reichert, cultural sights manager and Kristen Hill, the cultural sights program coordinator, about Castle's family and the history of the home itself.
Boise is hosting a series of events this week in advance of the official opening of the James Castle House on Saturday. That includes a one-year exhibition of 61 original works of Castle’s art.
