Idaho native William von Tagen is a filmmaker and actor who’s worked on movies here in the U.S. and in Germany. A graduate of Boise High School, von Tagen knew a career in cinema was what he wanted to pursue after doing a school project for a German language class.
After a series of shorts, he directed and starred in his first feature length film, Almosting It, in 2015. The indie flick – which was filmed around the Treasure Valley – drew critical praise and got von Tagen a reputation as one to watch.
The tall director with shaggy blond hair no longer lives in Boise; he’s traded in State Street for L.A.’s Sunset Boulevard. However, von Tagen is back in town for an engagement with Boise State’s Public Culture Initiative. He’ll meet with students and sit-in on classes to share his professional knowledge with up-and-coming writers and directors. He’ll also appear for a free public engagement Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Boise State Student Union Building. The event, “Making Films: An Evening with William von Tagen,” will feature a talk and Q & A session with the director.
