Ballet Idaho’s new leadership will debut fresh work this weekend.
Garrett Anderson took over as artistic director at Ballet Idaho this summer. But it’s not the first time he’s been involved with Boise’s dance scene. He danced one season with the disbanded Trey McIntyre Project, and appeared with LED during Treefort Music Fest a few years ago.
Now, he’s directing things off-stage and is excited to lead one of the city’s performing arts organizations.
“I’m encouraged by the appetite in Boise, and not just for dance but for all the arts," says Anderson. "I think it’s kind of a barometer on this city being very alive and vibrant and people paying attention when there’s things of good quality.”
Anderson’s debut with Ballet Idaho comes with their biannual NewDance show. But he says unlike in previous years, they’re working with choreographers from around the country to build a mixed repertory. Anderson says it will be like their Morrison Center performances, but on a smaller scale.
He’s also added a pre-show discussion with the audience.
“We hope people will come and participate and ask questions and learn a little more context for the work they’re about to see.”
NewDance performances go through Sunday night.
