Hewlett-Packard confirmed today it will cut about 27,000 jobs, or 8% of its total workforce, by October 2014. HP’s Boise operations employ fewer than 3,500 people. HP execs say every business unit and region will be cut, but it’s unclear yet how many Boise workers may be affected.
Bloomberg reports HP’s enterprise services group will take a larger number of job cuts than others. That group manages data centers and consults on technology. Some of these workers are based in Boise according to an Idaho Statesman articlelast December. HP Boise also houses people who work in its imaging and printing group, but that business unit was not mentioned specifically. HP Boise started in 1973. The company employs nearly 350,000 people worldwide.
HP’s fiscal second-quarter earnings dropped by 31% while revenues fell 3% to $30.7 billion.
