Next year’s Bogus Basin season passes went on sale this week. For skiers who buy before Monday, $229 will get them unlimited access to the ski mountain next season. Alan Moore, executive director of the non-profit attraction north of Boise, says prices are staying at the same level as this year.
The 2013-2014 season has been mixed, Moore says. Like many ski hills in Idaho, Bogus had pretty thin snow for a while. But Moore says it’s also had a lot of sunny days that have drawn people out of the often hazy valley.
“Visits have been OK, probably in the neighborhood of 70 to 80 percent of normal,” he says.
Moore is optimistic for next winter. He says so far, season pass sales are about 15 percent higher than they were this time last year. But he says it’s too early to tell if the mountain will make money this season.
“And if we did make any extra money we’d plow it back into the mountain to make the skiing and education experience that much better for the community,” Moore says.
He says that’s what managers did last year when Bogus Basin generated a small surplus. The resort had about $9 million in revenue, the last $100,000 or so was in the black.
