A Boise-based construction supply and services company says it's moving its headquarters to Atlanta because it wants access to a larger population and better airline service.
In a statement announcing the move, BMC says it will begin to move its executives to Georgia immediately. The rest of the move will happen in phases. The company says it will keep an office in Boise.
Besides access to more customers and more flights, BMC also wants access to a larger talent pool.
"The decision to establish headquarters in Atlanta was made after very careful consideration by the Board. Atlanta was strategically chosen based on the fact that BMC is targeting additional growth beyond its current footprint. The Company's fast organic growth, need to fill key management positions to support that growth and expand geographically beyond BMC's current footprint made Atlanta the best choice." - Peter Alexander, chief executive officer of BMC.
Boise's limited air service has been a thorn in the side of executives and economic development officials. The region's isolation and relatively small population translate into few direct flights in and out of southwestern Idaho. StateImpact Idaho explored the topicextensively two years ago.
BMC operates in 10 western states. The company says it has more than 5,000 employees.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution BMC will create or relocate 150 corporate jobs in Atlanta over the next two years.
Alexander says the decision was a unanimous one made by management and the company's board.
