Natural Food Producer Amy’s Kitchen To Open Idaho Facility

One of the nation’s biggest producers of natural, organic and vegetarian food is opening a facility in Idaho. California-based Amy’s Kitchen has bought a 500,000-square-foot plant in Pocatello, formerly owned by Heinz.

The announcement came from Idaho Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter’s office Wednesday.

“Idaho is a world-renowned leader in food processing – not only as a result of our wide diversity of exceptional agricultural products, but largely due to our talented workforce with decades of experience in the industry. The reopening of this state-of the-art facility in Pocatello by a family-owned company that extends its family-style atmosphere to its employees is exciting news for both the community and the state.” - Gov. Amy’s took advantage of a new tax reimbursement incentive passed by Idaho lawmakers early this year. The incentive gives up to 30 percent of state taxes back to companies that create a certain number of jobs.

Amy’s plans to hire 200 fulltime employees by the end of this year. The company says it will hire 1,000 people by the end of the 15 year tax incentive period. It's not clear how much those workers will be paid.
