The J.R. Simplot Company is partnering with a Texas-based company to build a 300,000-square-foot beef processing facility near Kuna, Idaho, creating up to 600 new jobs.
Simplot and Caviness Beef Packers announced Tuesday it expects to open in the fall of 2016, pending regulatory approval.
In a press release, Simplot officials say the processing plant will be called CS Beef Packers, LLC. The two companies say they're investing $100 million to build the facility.
"The primary purpose of the plant will be to harvest cull cows and bulls from Northwest dairy farms and cattle ranches throughout the Intermountain West," the Simplot press release explains. " The plant will also include hide and rendering processing and have the ability to process niche-fed beef programs."
The facility could process up to 1,700 head of cattle each day.
Simplot says it's not disclosing specific pay ranges, but a spokesman says "our goal will be to pay competitive wages."
The company says it hasn't received Idaho tax incentives for the project.
