Hot, dry conditions, and high fire danger have prompted more fire restrictions in Southwest and Central Idaho. Those new restrictions take effect today.
Fire danger last month prompted Stage One fire restrictions on state and Bureau of Land Management lands in Ada, Canyon, Elmore, Gem, Owyhee, Payette, and Washington counties. This included much of the lower-elevation grasslands. Now those restrictions are expanding. They include private and agency land in the Boise, Payette, and Sawtooth National Forests. It will also affect all state, private, and BLM land in parts of Boise, Idaho, Adams, Valley, Custer, Elmore, Camas, and Blaine counties.
Stage One restrictions mean you can only build a campfire or use a camp stove in a designated recreation site. It also means smoking is restricted, to inside a vehicle, inside a designated recreation site, or in a three-foot area that’s been cleared of all flammable materials.
