Fire Near Lucky Peak Burns 300 Acres

BLM

UPDATE:  Officials say the Turner fire had burned 300 acres as of Monday evening.  Crews expect to have the fire contained late Tuesday.  The fire is believed to have been started by human activity.

ORIGINAL POST: A 100 acre fire is burning south of Lucky Peak Dam. What’s being called the Turner fire because of its proximity to Turner Gulch, started about 5:00 Monday evening. It’s mostly burning land owned by the Bureau of Land Management, though some private property is involved.

A BLM spokesperson says no structures are involved at this point. The smoke is easily visible from some east Boise homes. The BLM has a 20 person hand crew cutting fire lines around the blaze as well as six engines, two bulldozers and a helicopter. Bureau officials have also called for an air tanker.

There is no estimate yet on when it will be contained.
