A group of western politicians, industry leaders and other stakeholders convened at Boise State Tuesday. The Andrus Center for Public Policy hosted the day-long conference, which included remarks from Congressman Mike Simpson, Montana Governor Steve Bullock and a few Idaho county commissioners.
One of the themes of the conference was about stakeholder collaboration between groups that haven’t always seen eye-to-eye. Valley County Commissioner Gordon Cruikshank talked about the value of federal lands, but says he doesn’t always agree with the federal government’s management style. Twin Falls County Commissioner Terry Kramer described the dual agricultural and recreational use of public lands in the Magic Valley.
The conference also included a recap by Oregon Public Broadcasting reporter Amanda Peacher who presented about the armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge last year.
