Idaho anglers may not have to wait much longer before they’re able to stock their freezer with steelhead.
Last month, Gem State officials implemented a catch-and-release order for steelhead across Idaho because relatively few fish made it back up the Columbia River from the Pacific Ocean.
Nearly 14,000 of the fish have made it past Lower Granite Dam as of last week – a big increase since August, but well shy of the five-year average to date.
The Lewiston Tribune reports anglers have two more weeks to comment on a proposed fishing season before Fish and Game Commissioners decide whether or not to lift the restrictions.
During the same meeting, commissioners signed off on opening a Coho salmon season on the Clearwater River starting Saturday with a two-catch limit.
