BOISE, ID. – The Nuclear Regulatory Commission issued a license Wednesday for a uranium enrichment plant near Idaho Falls. Jarret Adams is a spokesman for the license holder, Areva Enrichment Services. He says, “Well, over half of the output of this plant has already been pre-sold before the plant has even started construction so that’s just testament to the need for this project.” Areva’s project will meet demand from America’s nuclear reactors according to Adams. Areva applied for the license in 2008. Last year, Bonneville County secured $750,000 from the state of Idaho to help build a highway overpass that leads to Areva’s site. Adams says Areva plans to start construction next year.
