BOISE, ID. – Boise’s Parks and Recreation Commission meets this afternoon to review its pilot program for off-leash dog parks. Halfway through the year-long project, most residents surveyed say they’re satisfied.
Off-leash dogs are allowed in seven Boise parks at certain times and in defined areas. City animal control officers issued nearly 200 citations in the past six months to dog owners who weren’t following the rules. Parks and Recreation spokewoman Amy Stahl says two-thirds of people who’ve been surveyed like the project. But there are still concerns.
Amy Stahl: “We’ve had a couple of instances where the dogs are outside the boundaries of the off-leash areas and they are interacting with children in playgrounds and other spaces.”
Stahl says the Parks Department wants to hear more from residents. They plan to roll out another survey next year. Once that’s finished in April, the Commission will decide what to do next with off-leash dog parks.
