Honoring A Man Named Steve Appleton

BOISE, ID – Micron Technology remembered former CEO Steve Appleton today.  The memorial was held at the Taco Bell arena on the campus of Boise State University.  About four thousand people, mostly Micron workers, heard seven speakers recount how their lives were touched by Appleton.

Idaho Governor Butch Otter, Boise State President Bob Kustra, the University’s tennis coach, and the new CEO of Micron, among others, told stories that painted a picture of the man named Steve Appleton.  “Generous,” “lived life to the fullest,” “family man,” “ultra competitive,” “self-made,” and a “leader” – those were some of the words they used to describe Appleton, who died piloting a high performance plane earlier this month.  Greg Patton is Boise State’s tennis coach.

Greg Patton:  “Steve did not fly.  He soared through life.  He was so many different things.  He seized the moment.  He lived life at the most heightened state of being ever.  And you know what?  I think for everybody who knew him, the beauty is you got to soar with him.”

A three-minute video early in the program showed how Appleton’s life was full of moments when he pushed things to the limit:  off road racing in Mexico, aerobatic tricks in planes, scuba diving, bull fighting, and water skiing.  More videos highlighted his two other loves – family and Micron Technology.
