College football officials decided last week on a four-team playoff system for the 2014 season. This move will help teams like Boise State.

College football fans haven’t been shy about their distaste for the current system of crowning a champion. That system uses polls and computer rankings to pick two teams to play against each other. In the new system, four teams will compete for a chance at the championship game.
Sports columnist Brian Murphy writes for the Idaho Statesman and follows Boise State football. "Anything that gets us closer to a fairer system that includes more teams in the national championship discussion is better," says Murphy. "Better for college football and I think it’s better for certainly Boise State."
Murphy says expanding to four top teams instead of two allows Boise State and others to be among those chosen to compete for the national title game. Details on the new playoff system haven’t been worked out. They’ll likely be ironed out this summer before television contract negotiations begin in the Fall.
