The race horse that’s recently generated considerable interest in the Treasure Valley is back home in California after an 8th place finish in the Kentucky Derby. Rousing Sermon was flown from Louisville to Los Angeles Sunday morning.
Dan Kiser helped raise the horse at Tree Top Ranches near Parma. He attended the Derby and says Rousing Sermon came out of the grueling race in pretty good shape.
"He was a little tired the next morning, like all of them are," Kiser says. "It takes a tremendous effort with that kind of horse running that fast at a mile and a quarter. So we expected him to be a little tired, and he was. But the main thing – he came back healthy and sound and eating everything. I’m just incredibly proud of that horse."
Kiser says Rousing Sermon will spend the next few days resting. The decision has already been made not to have the horse run in the Preakness Stakes in 12 days. Kiser says how the horse bounces back from the Derby will determine if he runs in the Belmont Stakes on June 9th. Kiser says that decision will be made by trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.
