Idaho Citizen Soldiers Deploy To Afghanistan

Sixty members of the Idaho National Guard are now on active duty in Afghanistan after they were deployed over the weekend.  Company A, 1-168 General Support Aviation Battalion will provide air support for the mission in Afghanistan.  Most of the citizen soldiers are from the Treasure Valley.

The soldiers, and their eight UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, left Boise for Fort Hood, TX about six weeks ago.  A Guard spokesman says the soldiers trained for about 200-hours while in Texas.  Their mission will include transporting soldiers, VIPs, food and ammunition.  They may also be asked to perform medical evacuations.  The unit will return home in about 10 months.
