The head of the Department that handles disasters in Idaho is stepping down. Brigadier General William Shawver has directed the Idaho Bureau of Homeland Security for the last five years. He’s resigning to take a job in the private sector.
Spokesman Robert Feeley says Shawver did a good job and now a new Director will lead the agency. “What we do is we work to prepare, to respond, and to recover from disasters, whether that be fires or floods or earthquakes,” Feeley says, “so our mission is make sure we support the citizens of the state of Idaho by being prepared for the bad things that can happen.”
Colonel William “Brad” Richy will take over as Director. He’s been with the Idaho Air National Guard since 1988, and is currently a commander of a fighter wing. He’s flown 15 types of civilian and military aircraft, and worked for the United Parcel Service.
The Bureau is a civilian agency, that’s been around in some form since the 1950’s.
