Early Thursday morning a driver ran a red light in downtown Boise and struck a bicyclist. The female cyclist was taken to a local hospital and was being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Boise Police arrested an 18-year-old male after responding to the collision. Witnesses said the driver left the scene after the crash at 8th and West Myrtle Streets at 7:11 a.m.
The suspect has been charged with a felony for leaving the scene.
Police say there's evidence that indicates the suspect stopped and parked the car at a nearby parking lot and then walked back toward the collision scene. He then called 911 and told dispatch his location.
This marks the third time a cyclist has been hit in recent weeks. Already two cyclists have died after being struck by vehicles, and a pedestrian was killed in another hit-and-run earlier this month.
The cyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
The Boise Police Department has produced several safety videos for drivers and cyclists. The video below focuses on Idaho's law requiring drivers to give cyclists a three-foot berth.
