Friday, Boise opened the last section of the Boise Greenbelt. It comes nearly fifty years after the city started gathering up land to create the iconic foot-and-bike-path.
The new .9-mile section is on the south side of the Boise River between Americana Boulevard and Garden City. With this section, Boise says the Greenbelt is complete within city limits. The footpath stretches nearly 26 miles along both sides of the river.
“Now we cannot even imagine Boise without a clean river and the Greenbelt. It is beloved and has helped to make the Boise River one of the pillars of our city’s livability,” said Mayor David Bieter at a ceremony in Ann Morrison Park Friday.
“This new section improves the connectivity that many rely on every day to get to and from work and school,” said City Council President Elaine Clegg.
The Greenbelt is technically a Boise park. It follows the Boise River through the city. It serves as alternative transportation for commuters who walk or ride their bike to work.
“Most other cities can only dream about having such an amazing place for their residents to enjoy and use,” said City Council President Pro Tem Lauren McLean.
