Interstate 84 shut down Monday night in both directions with the closure lasting into Tuesday morning. As a demolition project finishes up, part of the freeway will be closed again.
The Ada County Highway District and the Idaho Transportation Department are tearing down the Cloverdale overpass; the bridge was damaged in a fiery crash in June.
A release from ACHD says all westbound lanes of I-84 and two eastbound lanes of the freeway will be closed starting Tuesday at 10 p.m. The closure will last through the night with officials expecting traffic to start flowing normally again around 6 a.m. Wednesday.
The closure spans from the intersection of I-84 and the connector to Eagle Road. ACHD and ITD have put out a map showing alternative routes drivers can take along Overland and Franklin.
Once crews get the bridge down, they’ll start building a new overpass featuring more lanes for cars, bike lanes and sidewalks in each direction.
A Boise concrete company is handling the project, which has an estimated price tag of $10.3 million.
