A study released earlier this week shows Idaho was one of the top states for inbound moves in 2018.
The moving company United Van Lines released their 42nd annual National Movers Study tracking state-to-state migration patterns based on the company’s own shipments.
Their 2018 report reveals Idaho had the third-highest percentage of inbound moves. Only Vermont and Oregon saw more people relocating within their borders. Two other western states that made the top five were Nevada and Arizona.
The company reported over 1,100 moves within Idaho, the vast majority of which were new residents making a home here.
The study not only takes into account how many people are moving to each state, but also the reasons why. According to the report, one of the biggest factors for moving to a new state last year was a new job or company transfer.
The study also found many moves to Mountain West states like Idaho were due to retirement, proximity to family and a lifestyle change. The moving company found more people came to the Gem State for that final reason than any other state.
