For many, wading into Independence Day traffic is a necessary evil of the holiday. This year, Idaho is expected to reach a record high of travelers over the weekend, eclipsing the numbers from 2018.
More than 260,000 drivers will hit the road for the Fourth of July weekend, according to Matthew Conde of AAA Idaho. He says the best way to get the most out of your long weekend comes down to solving small issues before they become trip ruiners.
“Most of the problems we see are three things: flat tires, dead batteries and lockouts," says Conde. "That’s why it’s such a good idea to do a pre-trip inspection because those things can be resolved well before you hit the road.”
The busiest time for travel will be the afternoon of July 3. If you’re headed to a popular destination like McCall this weekend, make sure to pack extra snacks to help ease your traffic blues.
The good news for Idaho travelers is that local gas prices are defying the national trend by falling instead of rising. The average price at the pump in Idaho is 18 cents cheaper than a month ago, and 16 cents cheaper than a year ago.
