An Idaho man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of fatally shooting his cousin.

The Post Register reports Demetrius Gomez was sentenced Tuesday.

A Chief U.S. District judge also ordered Gomez to serve five years of supervised release after completing his prison term.

Court records state Tyrone Diaz was shot in May 2016 once in the head with a shotgun. A witness told police she heard Gomez shoot Diaz. She said Gomez told the 44-year-old Diaz he was going to shoot him, and shortly after heard a loud bang.

Gomez had fled the scene when officer arrived, but was arrested May 15 in Pocatello.
