A Boise State University football player is accused of beating another student this week in a new civil lawsuit filed in Ada County District Court Friday.
An attorney representing the alleged victim, freshman Ben Taylor, says freshman safety Jace Richter beat his client early Sunday morning at the Taylor Hall dormitory on Boise State University's campus.
According to court documents, Richter repeatedly punched the alleged victim until he lost consciousness. Taylor claims he suffered head injuries and a broken nose and wrist.
Taylor is seeking $10,000 in damages in the suit.
A spokesman for Boise State athletics says they are aware of the incident, but declined to name the player citing privacy concerns. The student will remain suspended from team activities until the investigation concludes.
Richter remains listed on the online roster as of early Friday afternoon.
Boise Police confirmed they’re investigating the incident, but also declined to name any suspects. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
A Boise State University spokesman did not immediately return requests for comment as to Richter’s status as a student.
Messages left for Richter and his family were also not immediately returned.
These allegations follow the arrests of two other Boise State football players last month – one for disturbing the peace, the other for driving under the influence. Both matters are being handled within the football program, according to the Idaho Statesman.
