Fatal Police Shooting In Idaho Under Investigation

The Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children Unit works online and in the field to fight internet sex crime against kids.

A task force is investigating a fatal shooting in Weippe by law enforcement officers Wednesday morning. The Idaho Attorney General say the man shot had a gun.

Lawrence Wasden said local law enforcement and investigators with his Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, or ICAC, were involved in serving a search warrant east of Lewiston early Wednesday.

He said law enforcement were securing the scene when they found a man with a handgun. A press release said the man pointed the gun first at himself and then at officers. Wasden said two officers fired and the man died at the scene. No officers were hurt.

ICAC is a special unit that investigates sexual crimes involving children. Law enforcement officers from around the state make up the Task Force, which is part of the AG’s office. It’s one of dozens of such units across the country.

The Region Two Officer Involved Critical Incident Task Force, based in Lewiston, is investigating Wednesday’s shooting.
