Sound Wave Events in Boise, Idaho, is usually busy with weddings and graduation parties this time of year. But with most gatherings now canceled, the business has pivoted to block parties.
"If you told me a month ago that we would be DJing out of the back of a truck I would not have believed you," said Sound Wave owner Kristin Cole.
She said they've been invited to neighborhoods to DJ birthdays, anniversaries and other celebrations. They show up for about a half an hour, ask everyone to maintain six feet of distance, and then...they boogie. Cole said her employees pocket the earnings from these mobile get-downs.
"When I look at the number of cancellations and reschedules that my business has had for weddings and private events this year, yeah, that's scary," she said. "But here we are doing block parties, every day of the week, bringing sunshine and happiness to people."
They've hosted about 60 block parties in three weeks. Cole said there's not much you can be certain of these days, but one thing is still true: People love to dance.
