Sierra Bush went missing in late September. The 18-year-old Boise State student was living with her father in Boise, where she would commute to campus. Bush – who according to the Arbiter student newspaper was known as “Simon” to friends – was found dead near Highway 21 south of Idaho City on Saturday night. Boise Police Sergeant Justin Kendall says the investigation is still ongoing.
“We were initially suspicious that she hadn’t gone missing on her own accord," says Kendall. "She had no high risk behaviors in her life, she seems like a very good girl [with a] good head on her shoulders. Anytime we get cases like that, we treat them as a missing person, suspicious foul play and potential of homicide.”
Kendall says his officers have been working closely with Bush’s family since the case began on September 27th, and delivered the sad news Monday night. In an interview with KBSX earlier this month, Bush's stepfather Bart Green said the family suspected she was abducted.
“Boise police provides a victim witness coordinator to provide them with services and kind of be their liaison to us, kind of throughout the investigation going forward. So it was obviously devastating news to deliver to them. And pretty emotional and devastating really for the detectives working the case, too.”
Kendall says the Boise County coroner’s office has not released Bush’s cause of death, but foul play is suspected. He says police are looking for the person who initially identified the body.
