Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away, meaning some people might already be packing their bags for the November 22 holiday. The Transportation Security Administration is bracing for one of the busiest Thanksgivings on record.
The TSA says it expects to see a 5 percent rise in the number of people looking to make it home in time for turkey. That translates to screening some 25 million passengers for flights in the coming days.
A release from the agency says those hordes of people will start taking to the sky for the holiday as early as Friday, November 16. Last year, the TSA noticed more people leaving earlier for Thanksgiving rather than making their ritual treks the day before the holiday.
But as families trickle into their destinations, the agency expects they’ll leave en masse. TSA is projecting the Sunday following this Thanksgiving will break into its top 10 busiest days of all time.
The agency says passengers can help ease travel tensions at this most hectic time of the year by making sure their larger electronics are easily accessible during screening. Another tip: Dress for success. The TSA recommends avoiding big belts and bulky jewelry.
Finally, the most important guidance from the agency boils down to just three simple words: Get there early.
