River managers will evaluate restoration projects amid Big Wood River flooding

Since flooding in 2017, the Blaine County community has begun to re-think controlling the Big Wood River.

The Wood River Land Trust has constructed a few major restoration projects that take out rocks and other materials used to artificially harden banks. The goal is to help the river spread out so it can also slow down. In the wake of flooding this year, river managers will investigate how those projects are working.

I cover environmental issues, outdoor recreation and local news for Boise State Public Radio. Beyond reporting, I contribute to the station’s digital strategy efforts and enjoy thinking about how our work can best reach and serve our audience. The best part of my job is that I get to learn something new almost every day.
