Former Gov. John Victor Evans Sr. will lie in state Friday at the Idaho Capitol.

Evans died at his home in Boise on Tuesday at age 89.

The Idaho Statesman reports that a public viewing is planned for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

A funeral service will be held starting at 5 p.m. in Boise at the First United Methodist Church, Cathedral of the Rockies.

Evans was the lieutenant governor in 1977 when he was elevated to the chief executive job when then-Gov. Cecil D. Andrus was named interior secretary. Evans won elections in 1978 and 1982 to retain the post.

A memorial in Malad in southeastern Idaho is planned for noon Saturday in the LDS Second Ward Church.

Graveside services will follow at Malad City Cemetery.
