Idaho Attorney General Investigating Charter School Commission Audio Leak

Flickr Creative Commons, Richard Lee

The Idaho Attorney General will be investigating the circumstances of a closed meeting of the Idaho Public Charter School Commission.

Last month, audio leaked from an April 11 closed meeting. The conversation in question centered around one school in particular – Heritage Academy in Jerome.

The school’s low test scores were concerning to the commissioners and the conversation suggested they were unsure if Heritage Academy was fit to stay open.

In the meeting, they also accused the school’s administration of malpractice, claiming that the superintendent was happy to have low test scores, since it meant Heritage would qualify for more federal funding.

Because this conversation happened behind closed doors, the state’s open meetings law means the Attorney General has to investigate.
