Mountain West Region Has Highest Rate Of Fatal Encounters With Police

The Mountain West News Bureau is reporting on a sobering fact: our region has the highest rate of fatal encounters with police in the U.S. Today, Idaho Matters shared two of the stories filed in this new five-part series on this issue, called "Elevated Risk." 

We heard from reporter Nate Hegyi about how the Mountain West's gun culture and high rate of mental health issues contribute to this problem. And reporter Savannah Maher investigates the high rate of fatal encounters Indigenous people in our region experience.
